Scuba Diving and Snorkeling
Whether you are an experienced scuba diver or snorkeler, we will work with you to plan and book your dive vacation so you can enjoy spectacular underwater topography and marine life at the most opportune season for water clarity—and at the best value.
Some exciting international diving or snorkeling adventures we are delighted to book:
- Dive the Galapagos
- Snorkel with Whale Sharks
- Interact with Dwarf Minke Whales
- Tour the Great Barrier Reef on a dive live-aboard
- Dive the Beqa Reefs
- Dive Micronesia
- Dive Australia
We will merge your diving experience into your vacation so that you enjoy the best of both over and under water activities.
Only wish to snorkel? Ask us which resorts have offshore reefs. Or take a day tour to the reef and enjoy a guided snorkeling trip with a marine biologist.
Wish to try out the scuba experience? We will gladly suggest a property that offers a resort course.
Want to complete your open dives for full certification? Ask us for information on the dive shops, their ratings, and programs.
For the beginning diver, there are a number of ways to earn certification:
-
Full certification before you travel – All classroom sessions, pool training, and certification dives are completed prior to your vacation.
- Open water completion – With this option you complete the academic and pool portions prior to your trip, then travel to the warm, clear tropical waters to complete your required open-water dives.
- Full certification at your resort – You may wish to use a few days of your vacation time to study and complete your entire certification at the dive resort.
Vacation Options for the Certified (C Card) Diver:
Island resorts – Many island resorts offer off-shore diving and/or dive boats to the reef.
Mainland resorts – Mainland resorts with easy access to the reefs provide services to local dive sites.
Live-aboard – These larger vessels provide sleeping accommodations for divers and snorkelers and service a wide variety of sites. You may bring your own equipment or it may be reserved and waiting for you.
Live-aboard guest amenities usually include:
- Complete galley for food service
-
Common lounge area (often including sundeck, shaded area, and a main salon)
- Air-conditioning
- Audiovisual entertainment (such as television, VHS, 8-mm tape deck or CD player; some live-aboards now have a computer station where guests can retrieve e-mail and access the Internet).
- Sleeping accommodations (the current trend is toward double cabins with private head and shower). This is a deluxe ocean view cabin on the Spirit of Freedom, a Pro Dive Cairns dive boat
Live-aboard dive boat amenities often include:
- Chase boats
- Tank racks
- Dive platform with extended ladder
- VHF radios
- Clean air
- Camera rinse buckets, storage and maintenance table
- Freshwater showers
- Guest gear storage lockers and racks for drying wet suits
You may wish to enroll in Advanced Dive courses such as:
- Advanced Course
- Rescue Diver
- Divemaster Course
- Diving Instructor Course
Scuba Diving and Snorkeling for Honeymooners - Avid divers or snorkeling devotees? Be sure to include diving or snorkeling on your honeymoon. You can even take the plunge and be married beneath the sea. Ask us for details.
Family Diving Holidays - Introduce your children to the aquatic world. Then join them on a family dive Ask us to book your next vacation at a family friendly dive resort.
Toddlers/Preschoolers – Children can start to swim before they walk and learn to snorkel soon after. Let them practice in the local pool before going on vacation with you. Some resorts offer baby sitting in the morning while Mom and Dad go diving, and then the whole family can enjoy a swim or snorkel off the beach in the afternoon.
Elementary age (5 to 12) – By this age, children should be skilled in swimming and maybe snorkeling too. So assuming the destination is a shallow reef, they can go out on the boat with Mom and Dad. Choose a calm day, warm water, and reefs that are fascinating to the surface viewer. Some resorts offer SASY rentals (Supplied Air Snorkeling for Youth), which is a gear combination that includes an unsinkable flotation jacket, small tank, and regulator. This allows children the opportunity to be like their parents but keeps them safely on the surface without fear of air embolism. PADI has an intro to scuba “Bubblemaker” program for younger children and a “Seal Team” program for young divers.
